Things are getting bad, really bad. Pay is down, invites are way up, and the over all quality of music is taking a nosedive. Here’s a little graph created to explain the problems and truths:

On Sunday 20April2012 I will be presenting and breaking down my current LivePA rig for a workshop (details and registration). This workshop will cover the physical and digital aspects fo this idea. I have over $20,000 in gear rotated through this build in the past few years. Currently I am at a happy plateau of great tone, fun to play, light, versatile, and awesome.
One of the main leaps forward is the use of a FMR Audio RNC compressor that is getting signal from Ableton and side chaining the (all analog) signal.
The all analog signal is a Dave Smith Tetra > Soundcraft Notepad 102 > Aphex 102 Optical Compressor > EHX Memory Boy Delux Delay > RNC
Take a look at the signal flow

The whole rig – smaller than 2 turntables.
Here’s a notated demonstration set for the APC40 template available for free here : http://modern.dj/djnsm-apc40-one-page-template-for-live-performance/ where a full (albeit rapid) set is performed non-stop featuring screen view and APC40 overhead view. This is part of a larger documentation cycle on controllerism, the APC40 template, and demonstrating Modern DJ techniques. …enjoy…
Skateboarding, Classical Indian Music, Glitch, and remixing all in one video.
We are now documenting sets A/V style using a GoPro Hero2 with some special modifications. More videos are available on my dedicated Vimeo account.
